Focus 2018: Design for the Future

On December 18, 2017 the Board of School Trustees unanimously approved Focus 2018: Design For The Future, a plan to reorganize the school district. The Plan was approved by the United States District Court on June 8, 2018.

Fifth-grade students will move back to elementary schools creating a full-fledged middle school system for grades six through eight. High school grades remain unchanged.

Bell time changes will create additional instruction time for elementary students, as well as streamline transportation. A later start time for adolescent students would be established, partly based on a large, broad and consistent body of brain research by many leading health organizations including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

To more efficiently use under-utilized School Corporation buildings, the plan calls for closing and repurposing some schools. Greene Intermediate, Brown Intermediate and Eggleston would close; Rise Up Academy would be relocated, and Perley Fine Arts Academy, Marshall Intermediate Center and Clay Intermediate would be repurposed.
