South Bend Schools has launched a brand new magnet program! Clay has begun the authorization process for the International Baccalaureate program for the Primary Years Program (PYP) and the Middle Years Program (MYP). Teachers will begin training during the summer of 2018. Once the authorization process has been completed, Clay will officially become an IB World School!

International Baccalaureate Programs are currently in over 109 countries around the world, and the South Bend Community School Corporation will offer a complete International Baccalaureate program for students through the IB programs at Clay International Academy and John Adams High School.

The Primary Years Program is a transformative learning experience for students, teachers, and whole school communities. PYP students learn how to take control of their learning while teachers collaborate to deepen student understanding and increase student confidence and self-motivation. The whole school community, including parents, are viewed as partners in learning, and actively contribute to a holistic educational experience.

The Middle Years Program framework encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. Using global contexts, MYP students develop an understanding of their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet through developmentally appropriate explorations of:

  • Identities and relationships
  • Personal and cultural identity
  • Orientations in space and time
  • Scientific and technical innovation
  • Fairness and development
  • Globalization and sustainability.
